Application Process

We consider not only on your academic record but your personal qualities, your gifts and talents, your motivation to study, and your contribution to community life

UMAM offers a range of postgraduate research degrees across many disciplines and professions. Please prepare relevant documents for your application.

Document You Need To Prepare (Softcopy Required)

  • Identification Card
  • Passport photo 
  • Passport
  • Academic Certificate
  • Academic Transcript
  • English Test result (IELTS/TOEFL Paper/computer based, British Council EnglishScore, Duolingo, MUET)
  • Financial support (letter from sponsor/ bank statement)
  • Initial research proposal – Outlines your preliminary ideas for your planned area of research

Note :
Each document should be saved in a soft-copy (file) less than 2 MB.

Identification Card for Malaysian or Permanent Residence (PR) only

1 passport size photograph with WHITE background (35mm x 45mm).

Admission - Passport Photo Example

  • Passport (for Non Malaysia or permanent residence)
  1. All pages including passport data page (bio-data page which shows your face, name etc)
  2. Observation page (showing any extensions, clarifications of name, and previous passport numbers)
  3. Immigration Malaysia recommends to have minimum of 18 months (548 days) validity
  • Academic Certificate 
  1. Academic certificate must be issued in English.
  2. If the original language is not in English or Bahasa Malaysia, please have the document translated into English by a sworn translator and submit it with the original document attached.
  3. If the academic certificate is in both original language & English, it is acceptable
  4. If the academic certificate from Malaysia’s Higher Educations Institution is also acceptable
  • Academic Transcript
  1. Academic transcript must be issued in English.
  2. If the original language is not in English or Bahasa Malaysia, please have the document translated into English by a sworn translator and submit it with the original document attached.
  3. If the academic transcript is in both original language & English, it is acceptable
  4. If the academic transcript from Malaysia’s Higher Educations Institution is also acceptable

English Proficiency Test Result which is equivalent to minimum Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR LEVEL B2 as follows :

  • Minimum Cambridge EnglishOccupational English Test (OET) 200
  • Minimum Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) 160
  • Minimum International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 5.5 
  • Minimum Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL IBT) 46 – (TOEFL Essential Online) 8
  • Minimum Pearson test of English (PTE) – Academic 51
  • Minimum Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Band 4 
  • Minimum British Council EnglishScore Level B2
  • Minimum Duolingo Score 115
