The Crown Prince Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra inaugurated the University Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) establishment in Perlis.
Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) supported by several Muhammadiyah Universities in Indonesia, the Islamic Religious Council and the Perlis Malay Customs Council (MAIPs), Central Board of Muhammadiyah, Perlis royal government, Special Branch of Muhamamdiyah in Malaysia (PCI Muhammadiyah Malaysia), and Muhammadiyah student movement in Malaysia (IMM Malaysia) has successfully conducted ‘1st international summit on knowledge advancement (ISKA) 2022 on the 22th and 23th August 2022 at the Seri Malaysia Hotel, Kangar Perlis.
Bearing the theme “Knowledge Advancements”, the two days summit served as a platform for academics, researchers and industrial players to share knowledge and ideas, widen networking, present research findings and explore any other potential benefits that are expected to contribute to a better future.
The summit marked the launch of the first Muhammadiyah university abroad, which was officially inaugurated by The Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalulail. Some prominent figures were also present, among others are: Prof. Dr. Haedar Nasir (the head of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah), Bambang Suharto (Indonesian consul in Penang), Prof. Lincoln Arsyad M.Sc., Ph.D. (Research and Development Higher Education Council central board of Muhammadiyah), Prof. Dr. Abdul Mu’ti, M.Ed (Sec-gen of Muhammadiyah), Dato’ Arif Perkasa Prof. Dr. Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin (Mufti of Perlis Indra Kayangan), Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Mohd Noh Dalimin (Member of Board of Director UCMM consortium Sdn. Bhd), and few chancellors from Muhammadiyah Universities in Indonesia. There were 150 delegates who attended the hybrid summit coming from China, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia.
The Important Part of ISKA 2022
The parts of the International conference are as follows: 1) International Conference on Global Business Management and Economics (ICBMEc); 2) International Conference on Information Technology and Engineering Applications (ICIEAP); 3) International Conference on Education and Vocational Education (IEVE); 4) International Conference on Islamic Studies and Civilisation (ICISC); 5) International Conference on Psychology, Humanities and Social Sciences (ICPHS).
Agenda of The Summit
The first day of the summit was marked with speech from The Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who emphasized the importance of science culture. He appreciated the establishment of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia in Perlis as a forum for strengthening knowledge and relations between the two nations. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Haedar Nasir and Bambang Suhartono from the Indonesian consultant in Penang who represented the Indonesian government also emphasized that the two nations rooted from the same values (Islamic values) to shape the nations’ vision of developing civilisation.
After the delivery of the speeches, the event on the first day was continued with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between UMAM and five universities in Indonesia, namely Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur, Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara, Universitas Muhammadiyah Riau and Universitas Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung. The event was then continued with seminar sessions from prominent panelists such as YBhg. Sahibus Samahah, Prof. Dato’ Arif Perkasa, Dr. Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin (Mufti Perlis), Prof. Dr. Abdul Mu’ti, Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Series Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, Prof. Dr. Rushami Zien Yusoff, Prof. Dr. Azyumardi Arza, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah, and Prof. Dr. Lincoln Arsyad.
The second day of the Summit was continued with paper presentations, which were divided into three groups with five topic discussions, namely Global Business Management and Economics, Information Technology and Engineering Applications, Islamic Studies and Civilisation, Psychology, and Humanities and Social Sciences, and Education and Vocational Education.

Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia will operate on the main campus at Uniciti Alam, Padang Besar, Perlis Indra Kayangan. It is Located 25 km from Kangar, the capital of Perlis. Perlis is surrounded by the main economic catalyst of the Perlis Inland Port (PIP) between Malaysia and Thailand and the location of Uniciti Alam itself is as a hub of higher education in the state of Perlis.
