UMAM held an audience with the institutional director of the Higher Education on December 1, 2022 in building D, 7th floor. Present at the audience was Dr. Ir Sri Gunani Partiwi, M.T. Acting director of learning and student affairs accompanied by his staff, Kevin Marbun, M.A., while from UMAM there was the rector Ass. Prof. Dr. Ir. Waluyo Adi Siswanto, vice rector DR. Wachid Ridwan and five heads of programmes.
In this audience UMAM rector had the opportunity to tell the history of UMAM’s establishment to update its current conditions to provide a complete picture to the director general of higher education. The rector explained that UMAM had been prepared from the start to become a tertiary institution that met Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) standards. However, to anticipate problems that might arise in the future for its alumni, UMAM asked for an audience with the Director General of Higher Education.
This audience was held on a crucial issue which is also always a question for prospective UMAM students: Will UMAM Doctoral Degree be recognized by directorate general of higher education Indonesia (DIKTI)? Answering this question, Kevin said that based on the explanation given by the Rector which was quite detailed regarding the preparations for UMAM to begin its first intake in February 2023, covering settlement of student visas and accommodation, online progress report systems, log books, and other academic matters, all of which are in order to meet the requirements set by the Malaysian Qualification Agency or the Malaysian Qualification Framework, and UMAM graduates are fully accredited, then there is no problem with recognizing UMAM’s doctoral degree in Indonesia.
UMAM Rector further explained that for the time being UMAM was in the provisional accreditation stage but within the next two years it would be fully accredited. This should be encouraging news for prospective UMAM students and all those who are concerned about the establishment of the first Muhammadiyah university abroad.
