MoU UMAM and ITBM Bali - unique place

Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Rector of Institut Teknologi dan Bisnis Muhammadiyah Bali (ITBMBali) together with Vice Rector, H. Cuk Taruna Hendrajaya, SE, MM, and witnessed by the Head of Programme PhD in Business and Management Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) on October 26th, 2022.

The meeting between two prominent figures, Drs. H. Ismoyo S. Soemarlan, M.Par., CHIA (Rector of ITBMBali) and Rai Rake Setyawan, SE, GraDip Bus, MSA, PhD. (Head of Programme PhD in Business and Management) resulted into fruitful discussions as ITBMBali is ready to assist UMAM for research collaboration at Bali.

The existence of ITBMBali can definitely help the students of UMAM who are interested to choose Bali as their research’s case study and thesis’s completion in terms of access to prominent figures at the island, and deep-knowledge about tourism trends, businesses and management of Bali.

At the same time, UMAM which offers several PhD by research programmes; (1) PhD in Business and Management, (2) PhD in Social Science, (3) PhD in Education, (4) PhD in Islamic Studies, and (5) PhD in Information Technology could accelerate ITBMBali lecturers’ competency by furthering their PhD at UMAM.

Collaboration between ITBMBali and UMAM is a meeting between two newly record breakers. On one side, UMAM is the first local university established outside the territory of Indonesia, on the other side, ITBMBali is the first Perguruan Tinggi Muhammadiyah (PTM) established at ‘Pulau Dewata’ or Bali.

The Rector of the first PTM at Bali was interested with the research-based system. “Students can conduct their research anywhere, and they are only required to stay in Malaysia with a minimum of 6 months,” said Rai Rake, PhD. Knowing that most of the Balinese are involved in tourism business, the Head of Programme of PhD in Business and Management informed that there might be a huge potential for businessmen from Bali to continue their PhD at UMAM as they do not have to leave their business for a long time while they are continuing their studies.

Drs. Ismoyo also informally invited UMAM to present at Muhammadiyah Business and Investment Forum arranged by ITBMBali. It was said that the newly established institution at Island of Dewata is set to invite Asosiasi Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis (AFEB) Perguruan Tinggi Muhammadiyah dan ‘Aisyiyah. By joining a more specialization program, it is hoped that UMAM could target potential students who are interested in furthering PhD in Business and Management.
