
UMAM Rector Accompanies PP Muhammadiyah in Meeting with the Prime Minister of Malaysia
Naib Canselor of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM), Dr. H. Saidul Amin, M.A., accompanied the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Board (PP Muhammadiyah), Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si., in a meeting with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim, on Monday (March 3) in Putrajaya.
This meeting discussed the strengthening of educational cooperation between Muhammadiyah and Malaysia, as well as provided updates on the development of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) as a modern Islamic education center with international standards.
UMAM: Muhammadiyah’s Global Campus
The Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Prof. Haedar Nashir, expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s full support of UMAM.
“Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim has consistently provided strong support for UMAM as part of the global advancement of Islamic education,” he stated.
UMAM Rector, Dr. Saidul Amin, M.A., reaffirmed that UMAM is ready to become a leading center of modern Islamic education based on research and technology.
“UMAM serves as an academic bridge between Indonesia, Malaysia, and the wider Islamic world. We are committed to building an innovative and inclusive academic environment,” he explained.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also praised Muhammadiyah as a strategic partner in developing Islamic-based education that is moderate and globally oriented.
Strengthening Muhammadiyah’s Network in Malaysia
In addition to discussing UMAM, the meeting also included an official invitation from PP Muhammadiyah to Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim to deliver a keynote speech at Muhammadiyah’s anniversary celebration on November 18, 2025.
The discussion further covered the strengthening of Indonesia-Malaysia relations under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and the joint commitment to advancing the shared prosperity of the Malay world and ASEAN through education and research.
