It is a program to produce graduates with extensive expertise in Service Innovation Design who match the demands of the relevant field, who can justify the ideas and concepts in service innovation order to solve issues in the humane design field concerns and challenges. The advanced knowledge will lead to guide the graduates who competent in governance, human management, and industrial service utilizing contemporary innovation design ideas and practices.   

Programme Educational Objectives (PEO)                  

(PEO1)              
To produce graduates with extensive expertise in Service Innovation Design who match the demands of the relevant field.

(PEO2)              
To produce graduates who can justify the ideas and concepts in service innovation order to solve issues in the design field concerns and challenges.

(PEO3)              
To develop graduates who are competent in governance, human management, and industrial service utilizing contemporary innovation design ideas and practices.

(PEO4)              
To develop graduates who are able to analyse and synthesis the service innovation design regards the issues and future challenges.

Programme Learning Outcomes (PLO)                  

PLO 1:          
Apply theories that formulate comprehensive, systematic, integrated, new, and complex concepts related to service design, service systems, and innovation to real-world service contexts.

PLO 2:          
Conduct rigorous research and contribute the most advanced frontiers of knowledge to service design through scholarly publications, presentations, and contributions to society.

PLO 3:          
Critically evaluate appropriate research methods and techniques to develop new complex skills, techniques, and solutions to solve new, highly complex, emerging problems.

PLO 4:          
Demonstrate advanced knowledge of design thinking methodologies and apply them to effective collaboration with different people in learning and working communities and other groups and networks, ethically and professionally.

PLO 5:          
Apply information, insights, ideas and problems, and propose solutions cogently/coherently to peers, scholarly community and society in interdisciplinary perspectives to service design research and practice.

PLO 6:          
Communicate service design solutions using a range of visual, verbal, and written communication methods to support and enhance research in the latest focus areas of Service Design.

PLO 7:          
Critically formulate numerical and scientific data using quantitative or qualitative problem-solving tools.

PLO 8:          
Construct substantial autonomy, independence, leadership, and professionalism in research management to contribute to the technological, social and cultural progress of academic and professional practice to the society at large on emerging issues at professional levels.

PLO 9:          
Assess the impact of service design interventions on customer experiences, business outcomes, and society in the responsibility to integrate knowledge for lifelong learning.

PLO 10:          
Invent entrepreneurial ventures and projects in the latest focus areas of Service Design, contributing to innovation and growth.          
PLO 11:          
Demonstrate professionalism, legal, ethical behaviour, and respect for diversity in service design research and practice.

 

First semester:

Compulsory courses

  • TSD5907 Research Seminar
  • TSD5101 Strategic Design Thinking

TSD5999 Doctoral Research (Stage 1)

  • Research proposal writing
 
Second semester:

Choose one elective course     

  • TSD5201 Humane Design
  • TSD5401 Data-Driven Service Design
  • TSD5301 Sustainable Service Design 

TSD5999 Doctoral Research (Stage 2)

  • Completing research proposal
  • Proposal defend should be approved maximum in one year.
 
Third – Sixth semester:

TSD5999 Doctoral Research (Stage 3-6)

  • Thesis writing
  • Viva-Voce of thesis defend examined by internal and external examiners.
  • Prior to Viva Voce, at least two publications in SCOPUS indexed journal or conference proceedings.
 
Programme Duration (Full Time)
  • 3 years (6 semesters)

     

Entry Requirements

  1. A Master’s degree (Level 7, MQF) preferably in Art and Design or its relevant field ; OR
  2. Other equivalent / related qualifications to a Master's degree (Level 7 MQF) recognised by the Malaysian Government.


English Requirement

English Competency Requirement for International Student:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 500, or 
  • International English Language Testing System score of 5.0 or its equivalent, or
  • Achieve a minimum Band 4 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET), or 
  • Any equivalent to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR (B2).

(International Students)

Excluding immigration fees, insurance and dormitory.

Note: 

  1. Student pass fees for international students are subjected to a determination under the Malaysian Immigration Department.
  2. Student insurance fees are subjected to the statutory provisions of the University and local authorities.
  3. Student accommodation fees are determined by university rules and are available upon request.
