PEKANBARU – Universitas Muhammadiyah Riau (UMRI) hosted a delegation from Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) for a formal visit and academic collaboration at the UMRI Rectorate Building Auditorium on Monday morning (December 21, 2024).

The event was attended by members of UMRI’s Daily Governing Board (BPH), Vice Rectors I and II, deans, deputy deans, heads of units, institutions, and offices, as well as lecturers from UMRI's postgraduate programs. Representatives from Universitas Pasir Pengaraian (UPP) were also present as invited guests.

UMRI Rector and Vice Chancellor of UMAM, Dr. Saidul Amin, MA, expressed gratitude for the visit, emphasizing its significance for mutual growth. “We sincerely welcome constructive advice, suggestions, and feedback to advance both universities in the future,” he remarked.

As the Vice Chancellor of UMAM, Dr. Saidul explained that UMAM is part of Muhammadiyah's internationalization program. The name “UMAM” reflects its vision to be a pioneering institution that benefits not just a single community but humanity at large. “UMAM embodies Muhammadiyah’s universal mission to serve the world,” he added.

He also highlighted the three core dimensions driving UMAM’s development: potential, actual, and universal dimensions.

Additionally, Dr. Saidul outlined five distinctive features of UMAM:
1️⃣ Integration of worldly and divine knowledge.
2️⃣ Faculty members who are globally educated to ensure world-class quality.
3️⃣ Research dissertations addressing global challenges.
4️⃣ Graduates with the courage to uphold truth.
5️⃣ A commitment to producing alumni who are socially conscious and responsive to pressing issues.

The visit also included a signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UMAM and Universitas Pasir Pengaraian (UPP).

In his remarks, UPP Rector, Dr. Hardianto, MPd, expressed appreciation for the collaboration. “We may be based in a rural area, but Universitas Pasir Pengaraian is far from being ‘provincial,’” he said enthusiastically.

Dr. Hardianto also shared that UPP currently offers 19 study programs across seven faculties, continuously evolving to meet the challenges of higher education in Indonesia.

This visit marks a significant step in strengthening collaboration among Muhammadiyah universities, both nationally and internationally, to deliver globally competitive education. (Syae)
